Senior Investment Analyst


Job Description

The iTaukei Trust Fund Board (TTFB) was established by the Fiji government under an act of parliament in November 2004. The aim is to foster the advancement of indigenous Fijians and Rotumans by promoting initiatives that will better their standard of living, and enhance appropriate cultural traditions and values.

Senior Investment Analyst ensures the prudent management and growth of the investment portfolio for the TTFB. The Senior Investment Analyst is accountable to achieve the expected total return and within the risk profile set by the Board, with the objective of generating the revenue to support the funding of the iTaukei Trust Fund Board's legislated objectives. The role reports directly to the CEO.

  • TTFB investment portfolio grown yearly at agreed level
    • Healthy liquidity ratios maintained
    • Markets reviewed with Fund Managers on a regular basis
    • Financial products researched, assessed with recommendations to CEO on investment strategy
    • Local and international markets researched, assessed with recommendations to CEO on new opportunities or risks and investment strategy
    • Awareness of industry/sectors performing/non-performing and emerging markets
    • Excellent professional relationships with key informants, including the Reserve Bank, other investment organisations,  IMF, World Bank and the like.
  • Annual Investment Unit budget developed, submitted and approved by CEO
  • National, regional and international investment strategies are developed based on extensive consultation with CEO and brokers
    • Investment policy is adopted and adhered to
    • TTFB legislation reviewed and areas to support financial performance presented to CEO
  • Retention policy to optimise spending on programs is established and implemented
  • Strategies to optimise investment opportunities are developed based on competent analysis
    • “Request for Proposals” (RFP) or “Expressions of Interest” (EOI) documents for major investment projects are prepared
    • Due diligence report provided
  • Mechanisms of investment in portfolio and cash management flow are consistently reviewed and revised accordingly
  • Reports of existing investments and returns are thoroughly reviewed
    • Appropriate action taken in consultation with the CEO
    • Corrective measures implemented to overcome non-compliance and/or non-performance in a timely and professional manner
  • Day-to-day management of relevant policy and implementation programs contained in the strategy in collaboration with CEO and stakeholders
2. Effective business initiatives supported
  • Business cases for new initiatives and markets result in innovative and successful initiatives for resource owners in partnership with TTFB
    • New business successfully undertaken based on robust business cases produced
  • Recommendations for promising new initiatives are effectively supported, including to the CEO and relevant Board sub-committee
  •  targeted rates of return
  • Robust financial forecasting models for business development delivered, with recommendations for action
    • Cost benefit analyses undertaken as required
  • TTFB business development performance monitored and reported in a timely fashion

3. Risk is effectively managed through planning and mitigation strategies
  • TTFB operates within its regulatory and compliance framework at all times
  • Investment risks are effectively managed in a timely manner
    • Investment financial risks are identified and corrective mitigation strategies are implemented in a timely fashion
  • Internal and external audit teams promptly assisted as required
  • Annual Reports are produced in a timely and compliant fashion
4. Well-informed CEO and stakeholders
  • Advice on TTFB investment strategies provided to CEO
  • Workshops and presentations are conducted to inform stakeholders of investment strategies
    • Implementation action plan and time frame discussed
    • Appropriate policies are developed to facilitate the implementation of the strategy in line with statutory and regulatory requirements, in consultation with CEO
  • Periodic reports are thoroughly reviewed to ensure evidence-based decision-making
  • Investments opportunities presented to the CEO are appropriate and feasible
  • Effective risk management is ensured through timely and well-informed reports to CEO
5. Positive stakeholder relationships ensured
  • Professional business relationships with the Fund's lawyers, bankers, brokers, investment advisors and other interactions are effectively maintained
  • Negotiations around potential investments and beneficiaries are respectfully carried out in compliance with TTFB policies, laws and regulations
6. Effective Human Capital Management
  • Self-development ensures up to date and strategic decision-making/recommendations
    • Attendance at seminars/webinars ensures up to date awareness of the market
    • Research using credible sources, such as the 'Big Four' economist briefings on projections and trends
  • Annual work plan is prepared in accordance with set goals and targets
    • Investment Analyst workplan is aligned through collaborative development of the planning

Qualifications

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. A minimum of 10 years experience in a similar senior investment role managing a large mixed portfolio
  2. Excellent written and oral communication and liaison skills
  3. Ability to work credibly with investors and financing entities - private sector and institutions
  4. Proven experience in investigating and assessing risk on investment opportunities at local, regional and international levels
  5. Experience in consultations with the public and business sector
  6. Demonstrated high level of professional communication skills with excellent verbal and written English together with excellent interpersonal skills
