Assistant Storeman


Job Description

Fiji Ships & Heavy Industries Limited(FSHIL), a business subsidiary of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited is committed to achieving excellence in providing ship repair services, slipway facilities and heavy industry work in accordance to customer requirements and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The primary responsibilities of this role is to assist the Storeman in: 1). Acquiring, Issuing and maintaining of all material, machinery and equipment for all projects in a timely manner; 2.) Assist in providing transportation of manpower and materials for operations. This role reports to the Storeman.

1. Stock are handled accurately and with integrity
  • issuing of items & tools to workers
  • receive items from out-going employees and provide clearance to HR Department
  • receiving of materials from supplier.
  • updating of stock cards
  • ensure that all IRF is approved by work supervisor or works manager before issuing
  • ensure stock items are available or make new purchase
  • assist in monthly & yearly stock take
2. Faulty and outward stock are handled efficiently
  • assist in numbering of tools & equipment in consultation with the storeman
  • ensure to check all return equipment’s & tools are not damage and vice versa
  • any other task given by the store man
3. Housekeeping and Health and Safety protocols are maintained at all times:
  • The Storeroom is kept clean and organized at all times ensuring stocks can be stored efficiently in a dust/dirty free environment.             
    • Housekeeping and health and safety protocols are monitored and ensured at the workshop
  • Credits, orders and maintenance goods are labelled, systematically placed in their separate compartments and regulated efficiently to avoid any build-up of inventory.
  • Compliance with health and safety procedures is adhered at all times:                  
    • all accidents and incidents are reported promptly
    • unsafe practices at work are avoided
    • the strategies and goals of the health and safety compliance are met within scope of work
4. Matters relative to the Maintenance Vehicle handled effectively:
  • The vehicle running sheet reconciled and submitted to the Supervisor
  • Proper functionality of the vehicle ensured             
    • servicing is conducted as per schedule
    • Inspection/fitness of the Maintenance Vehicle ensured with LTA
    • general cleanliness of the vehicle maintained efficiently at all times
    • Accident-free vehicle ensured
  • Courteous and friendly service provided to staff
  • Collaboration with the team to ensure timely transportation in a safe, cost-effective and efficient manner
5. Contributions made to the organisation's success proactively:
  • Deadlines and service level agreements met at all times
  • The Maintenance Team efficiently and effectively assisted as and when required by the Team Leader            
    • attends to the ongoing maintenance efficiently as required
  • Any other work-related task assigned by the Management that is within the capacity of the position holder is performed; teamwork is demonstrated
  • Contributions made towards the organization's efficiency and improved productivity within -              
    • cost reduction initiatives
    • process/systems improvement initiatives
  • Contributions made towards the organization's profits in line with the scope of the work

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Certificate in Stores Management or relevant
  2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in similar role
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of stores management in ship repair/construction industry is desirable
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of Navision is desirable
  5. Proficient with MS Office
  6. Drivers License Group 2 is desirable
