Job Description

Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) trading as Solomon Power is a state-owned enterprise established under the Electricity Act 1969 and governed by the State-Owned Enterprises Act 2007 and the associated regulations. Solomon Power owns, maintains, and operates the country’s national electricity grid. Solomon Power generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity in the Solomon Islands.

This role oversees the accounting management operations of the Company. This role reports to the Manager Finance.

1. Finance Operations effectively managed
  • Operation of the Finance Department supervised daily and efficiency & effectiveness of department achieved and maintained .
  • All Solomon Power Financial Operations complied with International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Cash flows supervised and monitored daily
  • Accounting system managed and maintained for business continuity
  • Financial reporting systems for all operations within Solomon Power effectively maintained
2. Financial Accounts accurately managed
  • Monthly balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow reports prepared and submitted accurately and in a timely manner to Manager Finance
  • Rollover of monthly and annual accounts prepared accurately and in a timely manner
  • Annual accounts with relevant notes prepared for publication 
  • Entry of subsidiary ledger data and corresponding journal entries supervised
3. Well informed management through accurate and timely reporting
  • Detailed financial analysis of all Solomon Power's activities provided
  • Financial Performance reports to be submitted to Manager Finance are to be prepared in a timely manner
  • Assistance in the analysis of all capital works proposals adequate returns are ensured
4. Risk management effectively implemented and monitored
  1. Liaising with company auditors and the Auditor General’s Office regarding statutory requirements ensured.
  2. Consulted with the Manager Finance to ensure corrective action when needed and ensure problems addressed respectfully and effectively
  3. Assist in analysis of all capital works proposals so adequate returns are ensured and risks minimised.
5. A strategically focussed department
  • Committed assistance ensured in establishing and implementing departmental strategies and action plans to support the achievement of Solomon Power's Corporate Strategic Plan
  • Staff requirements identified and Finance Operations Staff performance managed.
  • Relevant training and development of Finance staff assessed and implemented in consultation with HR.
6. A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
  • Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and for the safety of other people, including people working under incumbent's supervision or direction who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions at the workplace ensured
  • Compliance with lawful direction given by Solomon Power with respect to health and safety matters under current Safety acts and regulations
7. Environmental protection is prioritised at all times
  • Ensure adherence to the requirements of the environmental systems
  • Ensure compliance with specific environmental management procedures applicable to their work
