Job Description

The Fiji Ports Corporation PTE Limited (FPCL) is a major player in the maritime transporting industries and the operator of commercial port facilities in Fiji.

Responsible for external and internal communications of FPCL and FSHIL through a variety of channels and forums to ensure that growth is maximized and the brand remains strong. Create, maintain and implement effective related policies, protocols and campaigns; maintain strong relationships with media representatives and customers. This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

1. Communication and media releases handled systematically and professionally:
  • Press releases researched, written and distributed to targeted media in a timely manner
    • Media coverage collated and analyzed effectively
    • Write engaging and timely copy for press releases and website news stories and selecting imagery
  • A network of media contacts built and maintained for media releases
    • develop strong working relationships
  • Publicity and marketing strategy and material coordinated, generated and managed efficiently-
    • publicity brochures, hand-outs, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes, social media, etc.
  • Effective assistance provided to the Executive Management in managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation
  • Media Communication Planner is updated with scheduled marketing and PR activities
  • Stakeholder management ensured
    • liaise with colleagues, stakeholders and key spokespeople
    • liaise with and answer enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, via telephone, email or written submissions
  • Customer queries attended to effectively and appropriately
    • respond to external customer complaints and liaise with respective Head of Departments and Executives while keeping the CEO informed
    • coordinate with CEO on serious matters
    • maintain and update customer complaint register
  • Confidentiality, where needed, around information sharing with people, groups, organizations, publications and/or the media maintained
  • Available to attend public relations and media related emergencies on a 24 hour basis and always alert and up-to-date
2. Effective organization and planning of Company events and Community engagement:
  • Organization of external and internal events coordinated and managed effectively:
    • press conferences and press tours, exhibitions, open day events, Gala Dinner, Company Sports day, events coordinated by the Social Club, etc.
  • FPCL's external award applications are organized and coordinated in a timely, professional and efficient manner.
  • Awareness raised effectively to establish local connections and stimulate positive public interested in FPCL
  • Champion FPCL's Social Corporate Responsibility
    • New opportunities sought with community groups to drive engagement
    • Liaise with a range of stakeholders to promote understanding and awareness in contributing towards social awareness
    • Marketing strategies proposed within budget
    • Sponsorship and donation opportunities sourced and managed with the approval from CEO
    • Community relations fostered through events, such as, open days and through involvement in community volunteering initiatives
    • Updates compiled and reported to the Executive Management
  • Marketing projects handled efficiently in liaison with the Project Officer
    • become FPCL's "Brand Guardian"
      • marketing plans developed and contributions made with new ideas, initiatives and areas of improvement
      • deliver processes and guidelines for all marketing and communication
      • write clear design briefs for agencies
      • assist with production and print of marketing materials
  • Cost effective measures maintained at all times in relation to publications, event planning, promotional items and any related objects, services or events
3. Effective management of social media and content development:
  • Company communication medium generated, edited and distributed in a timely manner:
    • in-house newsletters, company calendar, magazines, articles, flyers, billboard advertising, promotional items, etc.
  • Speeches and presentations for Senior Management and Executives researched, edited and drafted in a timely fashion with accuracy 
  • Annual report compiled and edited efficiently:
    • collect and collate information from Head of Departments
    • compile, collate and set-up the financial statement write-ups for the Annual Report
  • Effective assistance provided to ICT and Risk and Compliance Unit in the development of content for collateral, website, landing pages and online directories
  • Effective management of FPCL and FSHIL's social media/ LinkedIn/ online platforms
    • manage, edit and produce content
    • liaise with staff experts and develop and post engaging content, while also moderating and responding to comments, messages and other feedback
  • Liaise with the ICT Team in developing and implementing monthly tracking and analysis to report on social media and online platform traffic
    • identify potential new social media platforms and present innovative ideas to drive growth and increase user engagement and interaction
    • monitor trends in social media channels, trends and strategy to ensure FPCL remains relevant in the social media space in a positive image
4. Analytics conducted and communication protocols established effectively:
  • Monthly business analytics on company media coverage and communications submitted efficiently
    • Monthly business analytics submitted on external customer complaints
  • Market research and customer surveys commissioned efficiently
  • Department's policies are relevant, up to date and effectively communicated
    • Policies further developed under the direction of CEO to ensure ongoing operational efficiency

Qualifications

Qualification Discipline Notes
Preferred
Degree Business and Management, Public Relations, Marketing or Journalism. Bachelors Degree in Marketing and Communications or Business Administration with relevant experience

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Minimum of 3 years of journalism/Public relations/Communications/Marketing experience
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital media and marketing
  3. Good knowledge of and contacts in local media, must espouse team work, and demonstrate strong supervision and leadership skills
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and FPCL online reporting systems
  5. Advance competency in use of word processing and presentation software (e.g. MS Word, Powerpoint, Publisher) required
  6. Demonstrated and responsible use of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc
  7. Excellent business acumen
