Content Writer


Job Description

Established in 1983 as the Tourism Council of the South Pacific, the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is the mandated organisation representing Tourism in the region. Its 21 Government members are American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna and the People’s Republic of China. In addition to government members, the Pacific Tourism Organisation also has a private sector membership base

The role is required to create and deliver engaging and inspiring content across SPTO's range of digital channels and platforms. The Content Writer ensures SPTO's digital presence supports and enhances its projects and business offering including ensuring stakeholder management. The role reports to the Manager Marketing.

1. Strategic content created, delivered and monitored
  • Robust content supports the implementation of SPTO's Digital and Content Strategy.                      
  • Develop and monitor digital content plans for specific campaigns.  
  • Produce relevant content for websites, blogs and social media platforms.
  • Assisting the marketing team in developing content for advertising campaigns
  • Conduct in-depth research on industry-related topics in order to develop original content
  • Target content to specific audiences with a strong focus on unique products of the Pacific.
  • Devise paid and organic methods to increase online traffic. Conduct keyword research and use SEO best practices to increase traffic to website.
  • Analyse website and social media traffic to measure the reach of the content.   
  • Day-to-day management of digital channels ensured, creating inspirational, informative and engaging content. Implement Content Calendar across all channels, increasing engagement with audiences and stakeholders.
  • Creative ideas and innovative content delivery methods are being developed and implemented, while the latest digital marketing trends are being identified.
2. Stakeholder relationships developed and maintained
  • Establish partnerships with National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) and Industry Members and source contents (articles, videos, images, digital maps, etc.) which will help promote the various stories of the Pacific. 
  • Relationship building with international media agencies e.g.  Travel Daily Media, Cruise Industry News, Travel & Leisure etc.                        
  • On-going communication ensured with the editorial team and account executives to ensure deadlines are not missed.
  • Work closely with the Consultant to ensure activities in the Content Strategy are implemented.   
  • Liaise with website administrators to ensure contents on relevant websites are updated regularly.
  • Undertake media monitoring and social listening using reputable digital platform and provide reports to the Marketing Manager.
3. Project-based communications are supported and effective
  • Assistance provided with upgrading contents for SPTO, NTO and Industry Members’ websites in line with the Content Strategy.
  • Provide training and advice on the development and management of contents on digital channels of  SPTO, NTOs and Industry members.

Qualifications

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Over three years of proven experience in a comparable position
  2. Demonstrated expertise in devising and implementing successful strategies for media content and public relations campaigns.
  3. Outstanding writing and editing abilities.
  4. Strong relationships with line ministries, private and public sector partners and business media outlets
  5. Demonstrated expertise and experience in utilizing various forms of social and online media to communicate messages and disseminate information to intended audiences.
  6. Experience with web content management systems
