Safety, Health & Environmental Officer


Job Description

Pacific Batteries Limited is the only automotive battery manufacturing company in the South Pacific. It caters for both local and international markets exporting to countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea and Singapore to name a few.

The Safety, Heath and Environmental Officer is responsible for ensuring regulatory & statutory compliance for a safe, healthy & working environment for all employees, visitors and contractors of Pacific Batteries Pte Limited. This position reports to the General Manager,Pacific Batteries Pte Limited.

Outcomes

Organisational Stakeholders
1. Regulatory and operationally compliant organization
  • Occupational, Health and safety policies and procedures developed and implemented as per HASWA 1996
    • Recommend and implement improvement in safety standards
  • Compliant with the ISO 1400 standards and maintain documentations 
  • Weekly inspections and risk assessments carried out on a timely basis and any abnormalities identified and solutions recommended
    • Departmental safety inspections to ensure safe and clean working conditions at all times
    • Monthly fire drills ensured
  • Accident and incident investigations and future improvement action plan development and implementation ensured
    • Accidents and incidents are documented on required forms, investigated and improvements recommended and implemented
    • Accident statistics and accident trend analysis maintained and remedial action taken where necessary
    • Accidents and near-miss investigation ensured and detailed findings report presented to the General Manager with recommendations for the prevention of recurrence and implementation of approved course of action ensured
    • Worker's compensation claims process handled as required
  • Risk assessments effectively carried out on a weekly basis and appropriate mitigation actions taken as required
    • Company risk register updated and maintained at all times
    • Presentation of risk register at risk committee meetings
  • Training's and awareness sessions on health and safety issues ensured
    • Initiate and organize safety and compliance training's for all current employees and induction training for all new recruits
    • Training on handling of any dangerous goods and materials and regular monitoring to ensure compliance
    • Training on handling goods and any actions to take for any potential spills or emissions
    • Training on storage and disposal of chemical and biological agents in the workplace 
    • A register for First Aid trainers maintained and renewals of certification and/or refresher training's initiated as required by law
    • A register for Fire Wardens maintained and renewals of certification and/or refresher training's initiated as required by law
  • Strict monitoring of safety regulations by all stakeholders and enforcing safety at the work place ensured at all times
    • Renewal of all licenses required for operation
2. Safe work environment promoted and ensured at all times
  • Work place safety is ensured 
    • Communication of Safety, Health and Environment to all team members are on an on-going basis
    • Occupational Health & Safety systems promote zero workplace injury at all times
    • Local environmental regulation is aligned with work place safety on an on-going basis
  • Training Employees on Health, Safety and Environmental Issues 
  • Workplace hazards eliminated at all times
    • Systems assist in the identification and elimination of work place hazards on an on-going basis
3. Well Informed Management
  • Monthly and quarterly report is timely and accurate
    • Preparation and presentation identifying trends in the company.
    • Preparation of reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to senior management
    • Compare records and analysis 
  • OHS meetings ensured on monthly basis with meeting minutes recorded and management team updated on any urgent matters
  • Facilitate OH'S and LMCC meetings and maintain meeting minutes 
  • Ad-hoc information requests by management for decision-making purposes provided on accurate and in a timely manner

Qualifications

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Tertiary qualification in OHS or completion of OHS modules I - IV
  2. Demonstrated experience in implementing OHS systems and procedures
  3. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role
  4. Ability to understand and interpret company policies and procedures
  5. Ability to effectively manage time and prioritise multiple tasks
  6. Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
