Reporting Accountant


Job Description

Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) trading as Solomon Power is a state-owned enterprise established under the Electricity Act 1969 and governed by the State-Owned Enterprises Act 2007 and the associated regulations. Solomon Power owns, maintains, and operates the country’s national electricity grid. Solomon Power generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity in the Solomon Islands.

The Reporting Accountant undertakes data analysis, management of financial accounts and reporting to ensure that finance related data that are essential for finance and other related reports are accurate, reports are prepared on a timely basis, financial risks are identified so mitigating factors that can be developed. The position reports to the Manager Management Accounting.

1. Effective management of financial accounts and reporting
  • Data Analysis/Reporting/Forecasting                           
    •  Ensure Solomon Power’s finance reporting are correctly prepared and on timely manner:                                                                       
      • Accurate and timely monthly financial reports submitted to the Manager Management Accounting
      • half yearly report for review by Manager Management Accounting prepared and submitted
      • Variances in data and financial numbers are submitted to Manager Management Accounting for review
  • Financial reporting systems for all operations within Solomon Power created and monitored      
    • All relevant information to produce end of year statutory accounts for Solomon Power collated
    • All relevant information to produce monthly financial reports are collated and analysed.
    • Accurate and timely preparation / reporting of monthly financial results submitted 
    • Monthly balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow reports prepared and submitted to Manager Management Accounting
  • Preparation of monthly journals/audit related journals and account reconciliation
    • Ensure journals relating to general ledgers under supervision are prepared and posted on a timely manner
    • Ensure reconciliation of these general ledgers are prepared and submitted to Manager Management Accounting on timely manner for review
    • Ensure matters relating to unreconciled accounts are addressed and resolved on a timely manner
2. Risk effectively managed and reported
  • Financial risk review framework monitored
  • Reports to mitigate against financial risks submitted in a timely manner to Manager Management Accountant
3. A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
  • Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and for the safety of other people, including people working under incumbent's supervision or direction who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions at the workplace ensured
  • Compliance with lawful direction given by Solomon Power with respect to health and safety matters under current Safety acts and regulations

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Proven computer skills and use of applications and systems with advance knowledge and application of EXCEL and accounting packages
  2. Knowledge of Solomon Islands legislation especially the Income Tax Act, Electricity Act & the State-Owned Enterprises Act
  3. Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards and how they relate to Solomon Power
