Job Description

The Fiji Ports Corporation PTE Limited (FPCL) is a major player in the maritime transporting industries and the operator of commercial port facilities in Fiji.

Responsible for the safe and timely transport of Port Pilots and other boarding agencies between the port and the pilot station. This role reports to the Deputy Harbour Master.

Outcomes

Organisational Stakeholders
1. Safety checks conducted effectively and required records updated and maintained systematically:
  • Mandatory safety checks conducted before departure against standard lists provided
    • records of safety checks noted in a log book
  • Report provided to the Deputy Harbour Master in a timely manner - 
    • reports on navigational aids
    • reports on ship navigational hazards
  • Proper condition of the pilot boat maintained as per company standards
  • The pilot boat surveyed and maintained -
    • MSAF requirements for authorization met
    • records and maintenance schedule maintained efficiently
  • Mandatory checks on lifesaving apparatus performed ensuring validity on dates and its sea worthy condition
  • Records and maintenance schedule maintained efficiently in liaison with the OHS/Safety Unit
2. Required departmental operational objectives addressed and completed in a timely and efficient manner:
  • Log books updated and maintained efficiently
    • record and update the log book for every movement
  • Required implementations coordinated effectively -
    • maritime contingency response
    • emergency response
    • anti-pollution activities
  • Assistance provided with the development, update and implementation of the standard operating procedures and policies for operations specific to the scope of work
  • Intact, complete and up-to-date pilot boat operations' filing system and records maintained
3. Contributions made to the organisation's success proactively:
  • Deadlines and service level agreements met at all times
  • Any other work-related task assigned by the Management that is within the capacity of the position holder is performed; teamwork is demonstrated
  • Contributions made towards the organization's efficiency and improved productivity within -
    • cost reduction initiatives

5. Transport provided for Port Pilots and other boarding agencies in a safe, efficient and timely manner:
  • Port pilots provided with transport between
    • shore and ship
    • ship to ship
    • ship to shore
  • Proper berthing and mooring of the Pilot Boat ensured
  • The Health, Customs, Bio Security and Immigration personnel, and other boarding agencies, transported as and when required to the instructed locations
  • Mandatory safety briefs performed for all passengers according to the safety brief manual and standard list provided
  • The pilot boat secured safely from any damage and adverse weather conditions
  • The Pilot Boat operated in a safe and efficient manner

Qualifications

Certificate Class 5 Boat Master licence Valid Class 5 Master Certificate
Desirable
Certificate Class 3 Master or class 3 Marine Engeering. Valid Class 3 Master Certificate

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Class 5 master, experience as a Class 3 Master would be an added advantage
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of local regulatory requirements
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of the Sea Port Management Act and Regulations
  4. Knowledge of sea survival techniques
  5. Knowledge of local and international emergency response protocols and systems
  6. Proficiency in the use of Aid to Navigation equipment
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and FPCL online reporting systems
  8. Demonstrated successful experience in the problem identification and risk prevention requirements
  9. Knowledge of advance fire fighting skills
