Job Description

Fiji Ships & Heavy Industries Limited(FSHIL), a business subsidiary of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited is committed to achieving excellence in providing ship repair services, slipway facilities and heavy industry work in accordance to customer requirements and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The Fitter undertakes the ongoing planning and execution of technical jobs relating to service and installation of underwater gears of ship repair projects and assisting on other heavy industries projects. The role reports to the Works Supervisor.

1. 1. Accurate reading and drawing sketches of Engineering Drawings to carryout service and installation works
  • Removal and refitting of shaft, Propeller, rudders and its bearings.
  • Setup, align, and straighten the stern tube brackets and the sole piece.
  • Able to lap and to bone propeller onto the shaft to a satisfactory fit.
  • Carry out various types of Machinery, Installation on the vessel in a timely manner
  • Repair and installation works, on the cradle - 200Ton, 500Ton and 1000 Ton carried out effectively.
  • Some knowledge for assisting in fabrication and welding works
2. Relevant records maintained, updated and submitted in a timely manner:
  • Record daily work schedules and allocate resources in an efficient and effective way
  • Maintain Fitter log books and customer records
  • Prepare reports on the quality, efficiency and effectiveness / utilization of a project or as required
  • Prepare service and installation schedules for equipment including testing and
    adjustments
  • Check and commission domestic service and installation work undertaken by the
    Assistant Fitter

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Minimum of 3 years experience in similar role is preferred
  2. Demonstrated knowledge in ship repair activities is essential
  3. Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet targets efficiently
  4. Some knowledge of Machining/Welding and Fabrication would be an added advantage
  5. Experience in dealing with commercial and industrial customers
