Maintenance Engineer


Job Description

The Fiji Ports Corporation PTE Limited (FPCL) is a major player in the maritime transporting industries and the operator of commercial port facilities in Fiji.

Responsible for the management of the construction, maintenance and contract administration of all commercial ports and related areas of FPCL. This role is responsible for the overall ongoing satisfactory state of repair of port facilities and other FPCL infrastructure. This role reports to the Port Engineer.

1. Inspections, repair and maintenance of daily works coordinated and managed in a timely and efficient manner:
  • Regular and ongoing repair and maintenance of the Port facilities and FPCL properties ensured
    • supervise the overall ongoing maintenance and repair projects of port facilities and other FPCL infrastructure
  • Compliance with required protocols ensured at all times
  • Stakeholder and customer relationship and communication maintained effectively 
  • Health, safety and environmental standards met at all times
  • Port movement analyzed and monitored
    • new controls established and implemented
    • existing controls monitored and maintained
2. Budgets and paperwork for repair and maintenance prepared and submitted in a timely and effective manner:
  • Maintenance budget managed effectively
  • Schedule for inspection and preventative maintenance verified and ensured
    • prepare and submit in the absence of the Supervisor Maintenance 
  • Updated reports on maintenance projects prepared for Board Papers under Port Engineer's directive
  • Service contracts work prepared on facilities monitored and verified 
  • Technical Division documents relating to Repair and Maintenance works and Engineering Staff completed as required
  • Terms of Reference for Project Expression of Interest written and compiled in an effective manner
    • Assist the Assistant Port Engineer with writing project TORs when required
  • Designs ensured

  • Effective assistance provided in the development of risk management plans for Port Engineering projects
  • Compilation of tender documents coordinated efficiently

3. Supervisory and leadership of the department demonstrated effectively:
  • Contracts for maintenance and construction work supervised effectively
  • Supportive leadership to all Engineering maintenance staff provided and a work environment conducive to teamwork and cooperation fostered
    • Oversee FPCL's Engineering staff's performance by establishing, monitoring and reviewing work performance to ensure highest standards of work is consistently maintained
    • Leave and timesheets verified, checked and approved, and forwarded to HR in a timely manner
    • overtime monitored and managed effectively 
  • Developing and growing workforce competence ensured with effective supervision, mentoring and succession planning               
    • Capacity building for staff
    • Learning environment to help staff grow is supported
    • Training is provided on various facets of engineering functions

4. Effective assistance provided to the Port Engineer in ensuring all required departmental objectives are addressed and completed in a timely and efficient manner:
  • Effective assistance and supervision provided with all or any Engineering Project as and when required
  • Quality and performance standards of maintenance work developed, implemented and improved under the instructions of the PE
  • Available to attend emergencies on a 24 hour basis and always alert to emergencies
    • relevant departments and personnel are well informed through regular liaison and excellent communication
  • Relevant documents uploaded to the Document Management System as necessary 
  • Effective assistance provided to the Port Engineer in a timely manner and as required
    • Department's standard operating procedures (SOP) are relevant, up to date and effectively communicated
      • SoPs further developed to ensure ongoing operational efficiency
      • Business process flows maintained and monitored as per company requirements
    • Department's policies are relevant, up to date and effectively communicated
      • Policies further developed to ensure ongoing operational efficiency
    • Department annual budget is complete, accurate and submitted in a timely fashion
    • All administrative and operational records and filing systems updated, maintained and archived as per company policy
      • Departmental reports and documents are uploaded on the company intranet at the end of every month 
      • Reports and documents are up to date and accurate
      • DMS is updated and maintained
    • Department calendar is updated annually and in a timely fashion
  • Compilation, review and submission of monthly reports ensured
    • Updates and reports provided to the Port Engineer as and when required
      • assistance provided in the submission of accurate required information for the Annual Report

Qualifications

Preferred
Degree Civil Engineering Certificate or Diploma in Project Management is required

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
  2. Well versed with AutoCad - drafting and drawing
  3. Must have good knowledge of MS Project
  4. Demonstrated competence of handling matters effectively in complex environments
  5. Ability to think innovatively and contribute with ideas for improvements
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and FPCL online reporting systems
  7. Demonstrated knowledge in electronic document management
