Job Description

The Fiji Ports Corporation PTE Limited (FPCL) is a major player in the maritime transporting industries and the operator of commercial port facilities in Fiji.

Responsible for Pilot Training on any foreign ships entering Fiji waters in compliance with local and international standards under the guidance of Port Pilots. This role reports to the Senior Port Pilot.

1. Tasks relating to piloting performed effectively:
  • "Training" piloting duties performed diligently
  • Efficient checks on pilot boat services conducted
  • Effective assistance provided in the daily planning of cargo operations to ensure "quick turn-around" of vessels
  • Adherence to piloting standards met at all times
2. Updates and reports provided to the Senior Port Pilot as required in a timely manner and departmental objectives achieved effectively:
  • Alignment of work practices with partnership agreements ensured
  • Compliance with the ISPS code, OHS Act, STCW, Seaports Management Act and other relevant regulatory requirements met and ensured
  • Update/ feedback on 'on-the-job training' provided to the Training Department and the Senior Port Pilot
3. FPCL's reputation, profitability and performance is supported

Qualifications

Qualification Discipline Notes
Preferred
Certificate Certified and Licensed Class 2 Foreign Going Vessel unlimited. Class 2 Master Certificate

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Minimum of 3 years of command experience on a 3000 Gross Tonnage (GT) vessel
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of local regulatory requirements
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in Sea Port Management Act and Regulations
  4. Knowledge of port boundaries and sea survival techniques
  5. Knowledge of advance fire fighting skills
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and FPCL online reporting systems
