Manager Content & Acquisition


Job Description

The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation is Fiji's largest media company providing radio and television services in the country. The FBC today operates a network of six radio stations; two in each of the three major languages (i-Taukei, Hindi and English). FBC also has three television channels (FBCTV, FBC2 and FBC Sports HD).

The Manager Content & Acquisition will oversee the strategic acquisition, scheduling, and management of television, and digital content across FBC’s platforms. He/She individual will be responsible for ensuring that FBC’s programming is diverse, engaging, and aligned with the corporation's mission to provide high-quality, culturally relevant, and entertaining content to the Fijian audience

1. Content Acquisition:
  • Developing and executing a content acquisition strategy that supports FBC’s programming goals and aligns with audience preferences.
  • Identifying, negotiating, and secure high-quality content for television and digital platforms, including local and international media.
  • Managing relationships with external content providers, including production houses, studios, and distributors.
  • Evaluating market trends, competition, and emerging content types to inform content acquisition strategies.
  • Ensuring content aligns with FBC’s values and mission, while catering to the diverse tastes and cultural values of the Fijian audience.
2. Programming Strategy and Scheduling
  • Manage the planning, scheduling, and programming of content across all FBC platforms to maximize viewer and listener engagement.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager TV and other departments to create long-term programming strategies.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling of content, balancing audience preferences with FBC’s operational objectives.
  • Make alteration to programming schedules based on ratings, audience feedback, and current events.
  • Analyze the performance of acquired content using viewership and digital metrics.
  • Providing regular reports and insights to the senior management team on content performance and audience trends.
  • Proactively recommending changes in programming based on data analysis, emerging content trends, and audience feedback.
3. Procedures developed, monitored and implemented
  • Develop, monitor and implement procedures to improve the efficiency of the team's work and to better meet the customer's need
  • Implement and monitor risk management procedures
  • Ensure all content acquired is legally compliant, including appropriate rights management and licensing.
  • Oversee the adherence to local broadcasting regulations, guidelines, and cultural standards in content selection.
4. Team Management
  • Prepare work plans (weekly, monthly, annual basis)
  • Prepare 3- 5 year strategic plan for the unit.

5. Budget Management

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Experience in the communications industry particularly TV program production
  2. Strong understanding of Fijian and Pacific Islander cultures, with the ability to identify content that resonates with local audiences.
  3. Proven track record in negotiating content deals, managing budgets, and evaluating content performance.
  4. Understanding of media and communication legislation.
