Job Description

Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) trading as Solomon Power is a state-owned enterprise established under the Electricity Act 1969 and governed by the State-Owned Enterprises Act 2007 and the associated regulations. Solomon Power owns, maintains, and operates the country’s national electricity grid. Solomon Power generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity in the Solomon Islands.

The Installation Inspector is the key compliance role within the Regulatory team responsible for the coordination of effective and efficient delivery of relevant AS / NZS 3000 wiring standards and Electricity Act Cap. 128 for the Department and provides the coordinating function with other teams and departments. The position reports to the Principal Electrical Officer.

1. Technical efficiency and effectiveness of Solomon Power is expertly supported
  • Coordinate the daily & timely inspections of all wiring installations assigned by the Principal Electrical Inspector ensuring that all are following relevant wiring standards and instructions
  • Provide first point of contact & Interface on behalf of the team with Electrical contractors for their queries; including the provision of timely and value adding updates & feedback
  • Inspections on all electrical wirings, fittings, appliances and materials to ensure standards comply with AS/NZS 3000 wiring Rules & Electricity Act Cap 128 ensured
  • Inspections schedules on hazardous installations e.g. LPG installations, fuel depots ensured
  • Inspections schedules on solar grid connect installations ensured
  • Ensure progressive inspections throughout all construction and installations phases are completed ensuring that all safety standards and regulations are complied with.
  • Commissioning of all new and additional wiring installations and ensuring all standards and specifications have been met and documented
  • Assisted in fire, accident, death investigations connected to electricity.
  • Provided the key link with the Electrical Contractors for applications & outgoing permits for the provision & installation electrical wirings
  • Ensure timely and accurate periodic reports required for management reporting and decision making are provided
  • Prepared, disseminated and coordinated the Department’s work schedules and deliverables

  • Provided technical input on team assignments and activities
  • Provided technical assistance in fault investigations and root cause analysis
  • Identify, assess and manage impacts and risks associated with tasks carried out by the team and assist in mitigation measures
  • Support the Principal Electrical Inspector with the development, management and control of the Department’s financial budgets

  • Ensure quality reports are prepared accurately within stipulated time frames prior to submission
  • Ensure weekly progress reports provided
  • Outstanding action items tracked and followed through to completion ensured

  • Education of internal and external stakeholders on systems, processes and procedures of the department ensured
  • Ares of improvement identified and activities for improvement implemented and monitored for effective and efficient operations
  • Assist in coordinating departmental training

  • Compliance with all mandatory regulations applicable to Solomon Power, including Health and Safety standards when carrying out a job ensured
  • Ensure deliverables are following prevailing laws and organisational policies and procedures

Qualifications

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. At least 2-3 years in a similar role
  2. Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and requirements
  3. Strong stakeholder management & customer services skills necessary
  4. Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, Power Point and Data Base
