General Manager


Job Description

PacTrade (PNG) Limited is an established FMCG distributor of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and part of CJ Patel Group of Companies in Fiji. PacTrade is represented in PNG with its Head Office in Port Moresby and a branch in Lae, Morobe Province.

The General Manager is accountable for the leadership, management and control of all activities within Pactrade PNG Limited in accordance to the strategic direction of the CJ Patel Group. This position reports to the Group CEO, CJ Patel Pte Limited.

  • Strategic plan for Pactrade PNG ensured on a three to five year rolling time frame

2. Distribution and Sales Managed
  • Management of supply chain and distribution across the country and support product sales, growth and continuous cost & quality improvements in the business within a set budget, across geographical multi-sites.
    • Product distribution optimized in trade at all times
    • Relationships with local and multinational suppliers are developed and ensured
    • Stakeholder management with key Government agencies and other relevant organizations maintained at all times
    • Supply chain process ensured

    • Oversee Logistics and warehousing operations through the department managers

      • Stocktake and variance 
  • Oversee new sales lead development, improving distribution methods, and exploring new business opportunities, as well as execution of marketing activities through the sales managers and executives.
    • Review and align sales territories, quotas, and goals to improve service delivery and sales revenue.
    • Ensure regular market visits, meeting with key clients and assisting sales team with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals
  • Asset utilization maximized at all times

  • Creditors & debtors report presented in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Financial reports (monthly, quarterly and annually) submitted to Management on an accurate and timely basis
  • Financial audits (internal and external) complied on an accurate and timely basis

  • Risk Management program prepared and implemented
  • Audit gaps closed within assigned timeframe

  • Timeliness, quality and accuracy of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to management ensured

    • Daily operational data to the management is timely and accuracy of information maintained at all times
    • Weekly reports to Group General Manager Sales & Distribution
    • Quarterly management meetings
    • Key performance indicators on weekly basis are informed in time
  • Monthly report to COO/CFO/CEO is accurate and supports decision making
  • Ad-hoc information requests by management and shareholders, for decision-making purposes, addressed in a timely manner

  • Supervision of and professional guidance to all staff ensured
    • Communicate operational/business performance results, activities, etc. to Executive Management and provide recommendations and plans for ongoing improvement.

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Must have at least 5 years as a General Manager or in a similar role with strong sales & distribution experience and knowledge in the FMCG sector.
  2. Working knowledge and experience in South pacific exports market or PNG is desirable.
  3. Ability to understand market and business intelligence to make informed choices about business development.
  4. Possess broad commercial and business acumen and a strategic thinker.
  5. Excellent leadership, people management and decision making skills.
  6. Strong analytical problem solving, forecasting, budgeting, negotiating and communication skills.
