Job Description

The Fiji Museum is dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of Fiji’s Indigenous people and the diverse communities that have settled in the country over the past 200 years. As the national museum, it collects, cares for, and shares over 10,000 objects, textiles, artworks, archaeological finds, natural history specimens, and archival photographs. Through these collections, the museum tells the story of Fiji’s history. Established in 1904, the museum was created to protect and preserve Fiji’s cultural heritage and to provide a space for the public to engage with and appreciate the nation’s rich and diverse history

This role is responsible for assisting in the delivery of the US funded project that entails research, exhibit preparation, photography and digital archiving , ensuring effective delivery of this project. The role reports to the Project Team Leader.

  • New software, tools, and systems are efficiently adapted to enhance operations..

  • Archival records and photographs are digitised accurately and timely to preserve their condition.

Qualifications

Degree Arts and Entertainment, Arts and Economics, Arts in the Social Sciences Also included Degree in Anthropology or History

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Proficient in microsoft word, excel and powerpoint
  2. Demonstrates adequate level of research skills and reporting - to conduct research on artifacts and historical objects.
  3. Proficiency in data entry and cataloging software (e.g., PastPerfect, Excel).
  4. Basic knowledge of museum collections management and familiarity with object handling and conservation practices
