Job Description

The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), formerly known as Native Land Trust Board (NLTB) derives its existence from the Native Land Trust Act of 1940. The Chainman will provide support to surveyors in the field. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining surveying equipment, measuring distance and angles, and marking boundaries. The incumbent shall assist with field calculations, note-taking, and data collection. The Chainman must possess a good understanding of surveying principles and the ability to use surveying instruments and tools. Responsibility includes preparing survey reports and maps, ensuring that site topographic conditions are adequate for construction projects and that location specification adhere to government laws and regulations.

4. Surveying Support
  • Assistance provided in carrying out Topographic surveying.
  • Surveyors assisted in the field by setting up and maintaining surveying equipment
  • Distances and angles measured using chains, tape measures, and other surveying instruments like theodolites and total stations
5. Data Collection
  • Assistance provided in collating field survey data 
  • Survey drawings prepared and boundary calculations assisted. 
  • Drafting legal descriptions , survey reports and maps assisted and prepared. 
  • Collection of survey plans at lands department assisted. 
6. Equipment Maintenance
  • Survey equipment maintained and repaired. 
  • Tools and instruments in good working condition ensured. 
  • Cleanliness and safekeeping of surveying equipment

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Understanding the requirements of the role to assist in Survey field operations
  2. Physical fitness: ability to perform manual labor and work in different weather conditions
  3. Practical experience in land boundary, topographic surveying and related areas is highly valued
  4. Good knowledge and experience in Cadastral and Engineering Survey
  5. Demonstrated ability in measurement and scoping works
  6. Knowledge of iTaukei village protocol
  7. Basic understanding of what are NLC boundaries
  8. Technical Skills: Proficiency in using surveying instruments and tools
  9. Experience with skills using survey instruments such as GPS and total station survey equipment, as well as familiarity with AutoCAD and other surveying software
  10. Proficiency in basic survey calculations.
