Intermediate / Senior Accountant


Job Description

Accounting and taxation services are provided to Australian clients for a public practice firm in Nadi and Lautoka. The role supports delivery of monthly financial reporting, tax compliance, and audit support in accordance with Australian accounting standards, under the direction of the Team Leader.

Outcomes

Organisational Stakeholders
1. Financial Reporting
  • Accurate and timely financial reporting is delivered in line with accounting and statutory requirements.
    • Monthly financial reports and analysis are prepared and submitted.
    • End-of-month journals and balance sheet reconciliations are managed.
    • Accounting discrepancies, movements, and irregularities are investigated and resolved.
    • General ledger reconciliations are attended to and associated workbooks are maintained.
    • Monthly management accounts and stakeholder packs are prepared and issued.
2. Audit Support
  • Audit processes are supported to ensure compliance with audit requirements and standards.
    • Audit workpapers are prepared and submitted in accordance with audit requirements.
    • Responses to audit queries are drafted and provided in a timely manner.
3. Professional Development
  • Ongoing learning and compliance with evolving standards are maintained.
    • Accounting standards and tax legislation are kept up to date through continuous professional development and upskilling.
4. Tax Compliance
  • Tax obligations are fulfilled accurately and on time in accordance with Australian legislation and ATO requirements.
    • Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and payroll tax returns are prepared and lodged.
    • Individual, partnership, trust, and company tax returns are completed in line with current tax legislation.
    • Tax file numbers and GST registrations are coordinated as required.
    • Client queries regarding tax matters are addressed or escalated appropriately.
    • Compliance deadlines are monitored and met consistently.
5. Client Engagement and Support
  • Client expectations are managed professionally, and high-quality service is delivered to support strong client relationships.
    • Regular communication with clients is maintained to clarify queries and gather required documentation.
    • Accounting advice and support are provided to clients within scope of services.
    • Client files and records are maintained to meet quality and audit standards.
    • Feedback is gathered from clients to support continuous improvement.
    • Requests outside standard scope are identified and referred for approval or escalation.

Qualifications

Qualification Discipline Notes
Preferred
Degree Accounting and Finance Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. 2 – 4 years of accounting work, preferably in public practice.
  2. Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks), Microsoft Excel, and cloud-based client accounting platforms.
  3. Solid understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax legislation, GST/BAS processes, and end-of-month procedures.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Enthusiastic about taking on challenging roles and contributing to solutions.
