Job Description

Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) trading as Solomon Power is a state-owned enterprise established under the Electricity Act 1969 and governed by the State-Owned Enterprises Act 2007 and the associated regulations. Solomon Power owns, maintains, and operates the country’s national electricity grid. Solomon Power generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity in the Solomon Islands.

The Mechanical Engineer Operation will monitor, review and report on daily, weekly and monthly condition monitoring inspection check sheet collated by Power Station Operational team on all Plants and Auxiliary equipment. The role also provide support and assistance to the mechanical services engineer plant, mechanical services engineer auxiliaries and mechanical services engineer high speed engine deliver on their daily operational requirement and maintenance activities whether planned or unplanned. Additionally, the role overseers the Lunga workshop machinist while reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Coordinator

1. Power Station operations effectively and efficiently managed
  • All tasks associated with the monitoring and running of the Generation plant and auxiliary equipment supervised and monitored
  • Machines worked within specified parameters and any abnormalities reported is investigated with solutions identified
  • Quality and timely monitoring reports provided from Power Station Operational team is reviewed and Electrical Engineering Coordinator and Mechanical Engineering Coordinator are liaised on the performance of all Generation plant and auxiliaries to obtain optimum component efficiency
2. Well trained and effectively managed staff
  • Time sheets correctly maintained, prepared on a daily basis and submitted on a fortnightly basis
  • Staff issues addressed in consultation with the Mechanical Engineering Coordinator for necessary corrective action to be taken
  • Support with Job training of all Power Station Operational team carried out.
  • All safety standards and regulations are observed by all staff and strict safety rules applicable to the Power Station operation enforced at all times
3. Informed Mechanical Engineer Operation
  • Mechanical Engineering Coordinator is kept informed of any technical issues relating to the Generation facilities and related matters.
  • Mechanical Engineering Coordinator is updated on the status of mechanical plants and auxiliaries
4. A healthy, safe and OHS compliant Solomon Power
  • Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and for the safety of other people, including people working under incumbent's supervision or direction who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions at the workplace ensured
  • Comply with any direction given by Solomon Power or one of its Responsible Officers with respect to any health and safety matter under current Safety acts and regulations adhered

  • Ensure adherence to the requirements of the environmental systems
  • Ensure compliance with specific environmental management procedures applicable to their work
  • Complied with any direction given by any person employed by Solomon Power fulfilling the requirements of the environmental systems
