Job Description

Fiji Pine Group (FPG) is a state-owned forestry and wood-processing organisation in Fiji, responsible for the sustainable management of the country’s pine plantation resources. The Group is involved in plantation establishment, harvesting, timber processing, and the supply of wood products for local and export markets. Through its various subsidiary companies, Fiji Pine Group (FPG) plays a key role in supporting rural employment, landowner participation, and the long-term development of Fiji’s forestry sector while promoting sustainable and responsible forest management.

The Timber Grader is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the grading deck. Ensuring the appropriate grading of timber according to specifications and cutting of timber to correct sizes. The role reports to the Carriage Sawmill Manager.

  • Timber quality sustained as per required standards, any defects immediately reported. 
  • Recut timber effeciently processed. 
  • All timber are correctly graded and cut to correct sizes.
  • All timber graded and quality assessments duly conducted on all timber processed from the sawmill.
  • Pulled timber stacked offline by hand. 
  • Competent review of quality specifications conducted and timely and relevant feedback provided. 
2. Safe and Effective Operation of Machinery and Equipment
  • Effective and effecient operation of the conveyor/decks ensuring streamlined flow of timber to the chain. '
  • Effeciency ensured in feeding all overflow of timber from the chain. 
  • Competent and effective assistance provided in the operation of spray boxes.
  • Maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment carried out ensuring consistent and reliable performance as well as safety of operations.
  • Timely clearance of debris- Lift and pull timber, trash and broken pieces that are skewed before, after and on top of the operational area. 
  • Consistent monitoring ensured to identify hazards or potential issues with machinery or equipment.
  • Actvely carry out work with team members ensuring the smooth running of the processing line. 
  • Communication on the RT conducted professionally, with the use of English language.
  • Provision of on the job training as and when required.
  • Excution of any other duties within scope of the psotion or as assigned by the immediate supervisor of the department Manager from time to time. 
3. Compliance and Safety Ensured at all Times
  • Cleanliness of surrounding areas ensured at all times maintaining safety requirements and a clean working environment.
  • Debris and waste materials collected and disposed of appropriately. 
  • Maintenance tasks performed routinely, minimizing safety risks and preventing equipment faults. 
  • Housekeeping and OHS Standards compiled with at all times. 
  • Compliance ensured to organisational policies and procedures.
