Job Description

Fiji Pine Group (FPG) is a state-owned forestry and wood-processing organisation in Fiji, responsible for the sustainable management of the country’s pine plantation resources. The Group is involved in plantation establishment, harvesting, timber processing, and the supply of wood products for local and export markets. Through its various subsidiary companies, Fiji Pine Group (FPG) plays a key role in supporting rural employment, landowner participation, and the long-term development of Fiji’s forestry sector while promoting sustainable and responsible forest management.

The role will ensure that all plants and equipment are in functioning order and in compliance with Wireman’s rules and regulations. The role is responsible in carrying out task as designated by superiors to effectively and efficiently meet the operational requirement of electrical department. The role will report to the Tradesman.

1. Electrical Wiring Plans successfully executed
  • Technical diagrams and blueprints efficiently interpreted to plan electrical wiring layouts.
    • Compliance with local building codes and regulations ensured when designing wiring configurations.
  • Robust installation of wiring systems for lighting, communication, and other electrical needs according to specifications.
    • Appropriate wiring methods and materials correctly used to achieve reliable and safe electrical connections.
  • Proper grounding and insulation ensured to minimize the risk of electrical hazards.
    • Robust installation of grounding rods and use insulation materials rated for the intended application to protect against electric shock and fire hazards.
  • Newly installed wiring to successfully tested ensuring compatibility and functionality.
2. Electrical Apparatus Inspected and Installed Successfully
  • Inspections of electrical equipment and fixtures successfully carried out to assess condition and performance.
    • Check for signs of overheating, corrosion, or mechanical wear that may indicate impending failure.
  • Competent installment of a wide range of electrical components including starters, transformers, motors, lightning systems, and safety devices.
    • Manufacturer instructions and wiring diagrams attentively adhered, to ensure correct installation and wiring of electrical apparatus.
  • Robust verification of proper operation of installed equipment through testing and calibration.
    • Specialized test equipment correctly tested such as megohmmeters and oscilloscopes to verify the performance of electrical equipment.
  • Industry standards and regulations successfully adhered to for the installation and operation of electrical apparatus.
    • Stay informed about changes to electrical codes and regulations to ensure compliance with current requirements.
3. Competent Preventative Maintenance Programs
  • Schedule and oversee routine maintenance checks to prevent unexpected downtime ensured at all times.
    • Competent development of maintenance schedule based on manufacturer recommendations and industry best practices.
  • Robust implementation of maintenance plans to prolong the lifespan of electrical systems and equipment.
    • Lubricated moving parts, tightened connections, and performed system tests as part of regular maintenance tasks.
  • Detailed records properly stored of maintenance activities and equipment condition for future reference.
    • Maintenance procedures, inspection results, and any repairs or replacements made documented attentively.
  • Potential issues successfully identified and addressed proactively to avoid costly repairs or replacements.
    • Predictive maintenance techniques efficiently carried out such as thermal imaging and vibration analysis to detect potential failures before they occur.
4. Prevent System Breakdowns Procedures ensured at all times
  • Thorough inspections of wiring, cables, and circuits efficiently conducted to detect signs of wear or damage.
    • Visual inspections and testing equipment such as multimeters used to assess the condition of electrical components.
  • Outdated or faulty components replaced to maintain system integrity.
    • Wiring and cables upgraded as and when required to meet current safety standards and accommodate increased electrical loads.
  • Monitored and maintained circuits and electrical panels to remove dust and debris that can cause overheating or short circuits..
  • Robust test system performance ensured regularly to ensure optimal functionality and identify potential issues before they escalate.

Work Knowledge and Experience

  1. Must have industrial knowledge
  2. Good knowledge of various test equipment
  3. Completion of electrician apprenticeship will be an added advantage.
  4. Deep electrical system, power generation, blueprints and maintenance and repair knowledge.
  5. Good communication skills (both written and oral).
  6. Positive attitude and team player
  7. Flexible attitude towards working hours
