Job Description

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation today operates a network of six radio stations: two in each of the three major languages (iTaukei, Hindustani and English). The stations are Radio Fiji One and Bula FM (iTaukei), Radio Fiji Two and Mirchi FM (Hindustani), and Gold FM and 2Day FM (English). In addition to its radio services, FBC operates three television channels; FBC TV, FBC 2 and FBC Sports providing a diverse range of news, entertainment, sports and educational content across Fiji. FBC also operates its digital media platform, Viti+, which delivers live streaming to audiences both locally and internationally, expanding FBC’s reach beyond traditional broadcasting.

The Web & App Developer designs, develops, and maintains web and mobile applications for FBC's digital products.

2. Key Deliverables in App Development
Back-End Development Understand the server-side languages, primarily PHP. Create and manage APIs for web and mobile applications. Understanding of the backend frameworks that facilitate the development of robust, scalable applications. Mobile Application Development Develop cross-platform mobile applications using Framework7 and Cordova. Understanding of mobile-first design principles and the ability to ensure compatibility across a variety of devices and screen sizes. Security and Best Practices Understanding of web and mobile application security principles, including the implementation of authentication, authorization, and encryption mechanisms. Ensure industry best practices for coding, testing, and deployment, including writing clean, maintainable code and performing thorough testing. Continuous Learning and Adaptation Able to learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks to stay current with industry trends and advancements. Explore innovative solutions to technical challenges and improve existing processes.
3. App Maintenance and Support
Database Management Managing database using SQL-based databases and NoSQL databases. Implement complex queries, optimise database performance, and ensure data security. Server and Deployment Understanding Linux-based operating systems, particularly CentOS, for server management and configuration. Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and using containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Performance Optimization Implement optimization techniques for web and mobile applications to improve speed, efficiency, and user experience. Problem Solving Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, minimising downtime and maintaining operational continuity. Collaborate with UX/UI designers to implement user-centred design principles, enhancing the accessibility and usability of digital products.
4. Project Management and Upgrades
Contribute to the development of multiple web and mobile applications from conception to deployment, ensuring they met functional requirements and quality standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, project managers, and content creators, to ensure a cohesive and integrated digital product.
